Do You Trust Women?

Do you trust women? I do, and so do Lana Wilson and Martha Shane- two wonderful, pro-choice, documentary filmmakers.

These two amazing ladies are in the process of making a documentary called "Trust Women: The Story of Two American Abortion Doctors". Who are those two doctors? They're Dr. LeRoy Carhart of Nebraska and Dr. Warren Hern of Colorado. These two doctors were friends of the late Dr. George Tiller and are very outspoken pro-choice activists- despite the fact that their work and their activism puts their lives in danger. Not only that, but Dr. Hern and Dr. Carhart are two of the very limited amount of doctors in America who provide late term abortions. This makes them the perfect targets for anti-choice terrorism and harassment, yet they still go on. These people are heroes.

This documentary will profile the lives of these two courageous abortion providers. It's purpose is to "celebrate the amazing work these doctors have continued to do in the face of constant harassment and threats from anti-choice extremists" and "to change the way people see abortion doctors". Lana Wilson and Martha Shane have already begun meeting with and interviewing Dr. Carhart and Dr. Hern.

I believe that productions like this are great steps towards creating a pro-choice, pro-woman climate. Not only that, but this documentary has the potential to change the way many people see abortion providers. Too often, abortion providers are portrayed as the evil, greedy, baby murderers. Our providers have to be recognized as the heroes that they are. For all that they sacrifice for women's liberty, isn't that the least that they deserve? However, to go through with this project, they're going to need your help.

It's simple, really. Making any kind of documentary costs money. So, because of this, I'm going to ask you to donate to this cause. This documentary won't come into existence without your help, and, seriously, wouldn't you like to see this film? I know I would. Pro-choice friends, let's make this film a reality! By the way, if you donate at least $10, your donation will be rewarded with some awesome gifts. The rewards get better and better the more you donate.

And, just in case you need some convincing, here is a beautiful quote from our wonderful Dr. Hern. You can find some literature by him here.

“Why do I perform abortions? Because it matters. It matters for the health of the women I help, it matters for the health of their families, it matters for the health of our society and, now, it matters for freedom.”
—Warren M. Hern, MD, MPH, PhD
Boulder, CO

  9. Don't make the assumption that I hold all pro-life activists in the same high regard that you use to reverence Saint Hern. Don't be a sap, and don't insult everyone's intelligence. This isn't about pro or anti anything. He does it because he makes a shit-load of money doing it, and if you believe the bull-shit about how he cares for women, and freedom then you are a moron. The only freedom he cares for is the freedom that will keep him in the money.

  16. Anonymous Misogynist must have been protesting outside of Goldman Sachs for years. Jesus, I thought you conservatives were lovers of capitalism, and now you're having kittens over people getting paid for providing legal medical services. Everybody has to make money to take care of themselves and their families, even those who help people for a living.

And for all the crap that anti-choicers spew at doctors for providing abortions, what about the women who obtain them? There have always been women seeking abortions, before there were trained medical professionals to provide them. You just deny that those women exist, like over a million women a year are kidnapped by "teh eevil abortionist" and forced to terminate their pregnancies. News flash: women want them. Get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. FEMily (also a moron), I never said how I affiliate myself within the abortion debate. You are assuming based on no proof. I'm just pointing out that if you follow the money, you'll know exactly why the sainted Dr. Hern is doing abortions. For the money. And the shit he spews about women mattering is just that. Thank you for another intelligent response using your old friend the STRAW MAN. Can't refute what I say, so you attack me with unsubtantiated assumptions and name calling. You need to get some new material.

Sainted Dr. Hearn - "I care about women so much I'm going to join the peace corps and go to a third world country and provide reproductive health services to women for free ---- NOT!" hahahahaha

  18. And here's a newsflash for you. I didn't say I cared about him making money and supporting his family......I was just calling out the disingenuous 'noble' quotation about how much women, their health, and freedom matter to him. They matter right in his bank account. What a pompous ass.

That's not your sappy message about how you all looooovvvveeee your abortions - or how you wish you could talk about them like you talk about the weather. If you were a true feminist you would embrace the power in your body that creates life instead of spreading your legs so some dude who makes a gozillion dollars can ram a suction into your uterus and suck out a fetus. Tell me, will your abortion provider respect you in the morning? Oh, that's right - he doesn't even remember your name!

Behind almost every woman getting an abortion is a man who's pushing her to do it, or 'agreeing' it's the best thing to do, or saying he'll leave if she doesn't (and if it's not a man,it's a militant woman hater ---- oh, oh, I mean misogynist).

You silly bloggers are the most pathetic and duped of all women. Geez Louise! Quit acting like these pigs making a buck off of your so called 'misery' are gods.

Femily if the above statement by you is true, why do you support bowling to give to others? Shouldn't they be expected to work for it themselves (maybe become an abortionist too?)

Very telling how you financially support those who are willing to kill their family members but expect those who already have a family to make it without any financial help.

no one can truly understand what a woman goes through when making the ultimate decision to have an abortion unless they've seen it first hand...whether that be supporting a friend/loved one/stranger through it, working in an abortion clinic supporting these women, or have had to go through the difficulty of making the decision for themselves. i can speak from personal experience that all the doctor/nurses/counselors that come in contact with every single woman preparing to have an abortion does not and will not ever forget their name, their face, their process of decision making and their healing after a procedure. maybe their are people who would like to forget what they've experienced because it's uncomfortable for them to remember but you know what? everyone is human...everyone makes mistakes, and everyone should be given an opportunity to live their lives in the manner they choose. this does not make them horrible people or people who don't care about others. because the hardest situations are the ones the stay with you...do not ever think, not even for a minute, that any of these woman take their choice for granted...they carry their decision around in their heart forever. the only way for them to heal is to support them and love them for who they are. a strong, responsible, loving individual that is making the choice to better their families lives emotionally, physically and financially.

  27. the debate is still out on that one. so many different views in so many different minds.

anonymous, do you know anyone who has ever had an abortion, witnessed the decision making process of a women in a crisis or gone through the process yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  28. and to clarify, just in case you were not clear on who i was talking about in that comment you're referring to, the humans that make mistakes are the women and men involved in different types of conceptions - ones that may not have been planned, wanted, or conceived in love and others that may have been planned, wanted and conceived in love. some women and men have to make difficult decisions due to health of the women or the health pregnancy, financial issues, abusive relationships and many other situations that may make it impossible to carry the pregnancy full term and raise a child.
again, tell me about your experiences with this...i really truly want to know where you're coming from.

    ReplyDelete
  29. and you know what else...it truly is not the argument of whether a pregnancy is a life, at whichever stage it is in, it's the true fact that the choice should be available and it should be legal for all women.
    it's that simple.

Says who? You people here? or the law? or the prolife groups? If abortion becomes illegal again, will you two then support or break the law and have or perform abortions?

Why not answer some questions PCG? Someone asked you if your parents are paying for medical school? why not answer this? You should be ashamed.

Emily about whether the fetus is human or not you claim the debate is still out on that one? are you insane?

My best friend of 30 years aborted at age 19 and its the biggest regret of her life. Such controversy would not surround abortion if it were not wrong.

Wow, for someone who considers themselves to be supportive of women, you sure do make a lot of terrible assumptions about them. Women who have abortions don't hate themselves, and they certainly don't hate their capacity to reproduce. 60% of women who have abortions ALREADY HAVE CHILDREN. In case you don't know what that means, it means they've fucked a guy, got pregnant, popped out a baby 9 months later, and raised that child. And I've never had an abortion. I've never been pregnant. I've never even had sex, and I don't plan to, because I'm not attracted to dudes. In conclusion, you don't know what you're talking about.

And until the anti-choicers here decide to post comments under something other than Anonymous, I'm going to assume you're all the same person. If you don't want to set yourself apart, I sure as hell won't.

  33. My best friend of 30 years aborted at age 19 and its the biggest regret of her life. Such controversy would not surround abortion if it were not wrong.

No, such controversy would not surround abortion if women were respected as independent human beings with lives. Oppressed people are never given the right to just be without assholes like you pushing your backwards values and expectations on us. There's controversy around LGBTs serving in the military, marrying, getting jobs in schools, getting work and healthcare, and even simply walking down the street living their own lives, because the only people who are allowed to live peacefully in this country are White, straight, Christian, able-bodied, cisgender men. And if you don't understand any of the terms I just used, look them up yourself. I'm not your Google.

  34. Not all the same Anons but we all do exist and are humans as sure as all fetuses exist and are humans.

Why so angry FEMily? If you will never get pregnant then the abortion issue IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS as you proclaim it is not for men. Stay out of women's issues that will never affect you.

How did the women in the pregnant women porn you watch get pregnant? Even if you used turkey basters to inseminate them, a man was still involved at an earlier point. Do they abort all fetuses that are white little boys?

Be careful, your hate my spread.

"And I've never had an abortion. I've never been pregnant. I've never even had sex, and I don't plan to, because I'm not attracted to dudes. In conclusion, you don't know what you're talking about."

Hear ---- I shorten it a little this time:

" In conclusion, you don't know what you're talking about."

OH. MY. GOSH. - do you realize what an idiot you are, or do you always rely on us to tell you!? 38. Why so angry FEMily? If you will never get pregnant then the abortion issue IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS as you proclaim it is not for men. Stay out of women's issues that will never affect you.

When did I say that the abortion issue isn't the business of men? Or women who can't or choose not to get pregnant? I never said that. Reproductive rights is a personal issue for everyone, but the people who are attacked most for exercising them are women. When people are going to try to take the rights away from women, I'm going to fight back. Simple as that. And the fact that you think being an asexual woman precludes me from taking part in the reproductive justice movement makes you a bigot. Do you think that just because I'm not going to get pregnant by choice you're going to respect my bodily autonomy? If I became pregnant after being raped and sought an abortion, you would still call me a slut. You would still force me to give birth. You would still force me to report the crime and hand over the product of conception to the police as evidence. The anti-choice movement has never been about saving babies or protecting women. It's 100% about demonizing women's behavior and controlling their bodies, whether they're straight, lesbian, asexual, or trans. You will not stop until every woman is oppressed and controlled by you. Insult my intelligence and my sexual orientation all you want. It says more about you than it does about me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "It says more about you than it does about me." Wow this is a comment I said on this site a month ago and now you are using it! I am flattered. You have the worst mouth on here. I am one anon that posts here but have never insulted anyone's intelligence or their sexual orientation. I post anon because I don't want to be harassed by someone who talks to others like you and PCG do. (go back and read YOUR language -- you must be proud). I know I could stop coming here but I really do care about mothers and the lives of their unborn babies. How would you feel if we could abort only babies that we thought would be born asexual? All OK until its you people want to kill. Many people would support the killing of gays and asexuals if our government legalized it you know.

What about the rights of the fetus? Why do they have none but everyone else should. As a member of an oppressed group, I would think you would be a huge supporter of THEIR rights. I am a member of an oppressed group as well so don't assume anything about me.

Get out of your victim mode and stand up for those who are discriminated against to the point of death. Your complaints don't fly with those who fight for equal rights for ALL HUMANS.

Being supportive of killing unborn humans says alot about your mentality.

basically what i've learned from reading all the 'anonymous" postings is that there are a lot of hateful people in the world that do not respect women or respect them for their own decisions.

as for a personal experience, i was hoping for something a bit more liberating other than stating that a woman who had an abortion has regretted it. many women do regret having to make the decision to terminate a pregnancy, that's nothing new. that's why people who support women and love them for any decision they make to better their lives and their family's lives are the one's they turn to.

    ReplyDelete
  41. There is help for pregnant women. Don't act like most women have NO other option than abortion. Nobody falls for that. Some might say it to make excuses or rationalize but there are options.

If nothing is wrong with abortion, what are women regretting?

Quit enabling women to remain victims.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Emily,

It doesn't get any more hateful than killing your own child.

    Get real.

Have you ever watched 22 Weeks? Maybe you think this leaves a woman feeling good about herself.

    Stop the Hate. Stop Abortion.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i never stated that there aren't any other options, clearly a woman can choose to carry a pregnancy and raise a child, carry a pregnancy and choose adoption, or carry a pregnancy and choose abortion. this is the hardest part...the decision making process. you're not giving these women enough credit for their own decisions. you don't have faith in them. some women come to our clinic and through a counseling session they decide that carrying though or adoption is the best option for them.
my point is no women should be made to do something they don't want to do.
maybe, you should experience this process and learn from the hardships of women going through their decision to have an abortion.

by the way, if you are against abortion, why are you harassing a pro-choice blog?

    ReplyDelete
  44. You don't support equal rights for all humans when you want to force women to give birth. That takes away a right that women already have, the right not to be used by you. You're also giving a special right to zygotes, embryos, and fetuses that nobody has. Nobody has the right to use somebody's body without their permission. When a man is inside a woman without her permission, it's called rape. When a person uses another person's body without their permission, it's called slavery. When someone kills someone because they are infringing upon their right to bodily autonomy, it's called self defense. So if you think a zygote is a person, it has to abide by the same rules that everyone else has to. If it's not a person, then it has no protections under the law. Either way, abortion remains a legal right. So come up with a new argument.

    ReplyDelete
  45. "If nothing is wrong with abortion, what are women regretting?"

and i didn't state that they regret the abortion...i stated "many women do regret HAVING TO MAKE THE DECISION to terminate a pregnancy"

the decision! no one wants to be in the position to struggle with such a personal and difficult decision. that's a fact i know all too well.

    ReplyDelete
  46. FEMily - you are a joke.

How did this degenerate into a pro-anti argument? I just wanted to point out the hypocricy and idiocy behind the following, posted by PCG:

"And, just in case you need some convincing, here is a beautiful quote from our wonderful Dr. Hern...
“Why do I perform abortions? Because it matters. It matters for the health of the women I help, it matters for the health of their families, it matters for the health of our society and, now, it matters for freedom.”
—Warren M. Hern, MD, MPH, PhD
    Boulder, CO "

"Beautiful" quote. "Wonderful" dr. hern. Like she's dripping slobber over a dude who only cares about the money he is making. They go out and have these pitiful "bowl-a-thons" so they can give away money to women, who then hand the money to these "wonderful" people who care so much about them they turn them away at the door if they can't pay for an abortion. What a bunch of imbeciles.

dr hern: "Show me the wonderful, beautiful money, or get the hell out of my clinic" end. of. story.

  47. "by the way, if you are against abortion, why are you harassing a pro-choice blog?"

Here goes the victim mentality again. If PCG feels so 'harassed' she could block anyone but those who stroke her ego.

You probably think people praying outside the mills are harassing too.

"So if you think a zygote is a person, it has to abide by the same rules that everyone else has to" My infant isn't held to the same rules that I am. My teenager isn't held to the same rules either. Do you even think about what you say?

  48. "this is the hardest part"

Emily, think about this real hard. Why is the decision SOOOO hard? If nothing is wrong with abortion the decision would not be hard or controversial. Deep down, everyone KNOWS abortion kills another human being. Some are in denial, some don't care and some are just sociopaths.

    harass–verb (used with object)
    1. to disturb persistently; torment, as with troubles or cares; bother continually; pester; persecute.
    2. to trouble by repeated attacks, incursions, etc., as in war or hostilities; harry; raid.

Yup, clinic protesters do harass patients, and you harass this blog. No victim mentality about it, it's just a simple fact.
